Every year, come Christmas and you can expect a Sandip Ray film to hit the theatres. This year is no different, but this time the Bengali audience will be watching his first ghost film for the big screen. Jekhane Bhooter Bhoy (When One Fears Ghosts) comprises of three short stories strung together to make a single film. As he goes through his usual pre-release jitters, Ray talks about his new film

What is the reason you have chosen to make a ghost film, for the first time?

I am personally very fond of ghost stories and my father (Satyajit Ray) has left behind a wonderful bouquet of ghost stories just waiting to be filmed. Secondly, ghosts seem to be the flavour of the year, after the tremendous commercial and critical success of Anik Dutta’s Bhooter Bhabisyat. Thirdly, my Feluda (Sabyasachi Chakraborty) has become a bit too old to play Feluda as confessed by him. So, till I could find a new Feluda, I decided this would be the right genre to explore. I have done some ghost stories for television already.

What is the film all about?

I originally chose four ghost stories to make a single film. Later on, I had to drop the fourth story, Lucknower Duel because I found that three stories ran into two hours and I hate the audience glancing at their watches, while they are watching my film. I
