We are at a suburban restaurant, and the singer discovers a few friends and greets some fans before we settle down for a chat. Hard Kaur lights up a cigarette, and as the smoke curls up and around, unfolds the story of her fiery life. Truly, there is no fire without smoke.
Our first question - how on earth did she acquire the name? “I will tell you soon,” she promises tantalisingly. Because to know the answer to that one we have to rewind on how her life shaped up the singer into what she is today.
“I was born Taran Kaur Dhillon in Kanpur where my mom ran a small beauty parlour in our house,” says the singer. “Dad suddenly passed away and when mom, my younger brother and I were sent to her parents’ house for a few days, a conveniently mysterious fire broke out and burnt down the parlour,” says the singer. “Later my father’s parents even told her that she should move to her parents’ home in Ludhiana, while we, their son’s kids, would keep living with them.”
She goes on, “We hated living there. Then one day mom came to visit us and saw how unhappy we were. And that day, my brother and I just ran away with her!”
