Mumbai: The coming year will see western artistes making a musical foray in India

2012 not only saw Indian artistes like Priyanka Chopra, Anushka Manchanda and Rahul Sharma collaborating with International musicians, but also witnessed an influx of Western artistes making a beeline to perform in the country. This trend, it seems, will continue well into this year’s music scene as there is a spiffy line up of artistes expected to perform in the country.

To begin with, revered bands like Robert Randolph and The Family Band, Jimmie Vaughan & The Tilt a Whirl Band featuring Lou Ann Barton, Popa Chubby, Walter Trout & The Radicals, Dana Fuchs Band, Big Bang Blues and Soulmate are to perform at the third edition of the Mahindra Blues Festival on 16-17 February at Mehboob Studios in Bandra, Mumbai. Also, former lead guitarist of the American hard rock band Guns N’ Roses, Slash, is expected to conduct a three-city tour across India in February.

Celluloid endeavours

Legendary songstress Asha Bhosle, on the other hand, is to make an acting debut with Mai, slated to release on 1 February. Bhosle will be seen essaying the title role, and will star alongside Padmini Kolhapure. Also, there is news that Grammy Award recipient singer, songwriter-actress Beyoncé Knowles will be the focus of a feature-length documentary film by HBO debuting in February.
